How the goal date is worked out
The calculator divides the weight you want to lose by your weekly pace to get the number of weeks, then counts forward from today. Real progress is rarely a straight line, so treat the date as a guide.
The calorie estimate
A common rule of thumb is that about 3,500 kcal equals one pound of body weight. Losing 1 lb a week therefore needs a deficit of about 500 kcal a day. Bodies vary, so use this as a starting point.
About BMI
BMI is weight divided by height squared. It is a quick screening measure, but it does not account for muscle, age or body shape. Waist measurement and how you feel matter too.
Why the scale bounces
Water, salt, food and hormones can move your weight by a pound or more overnight. A trend line of daily weigh-ins shows the real direction.

Frequently asked questions
What is a safe weekly pace?
Many health guidelines suggest about 1 to 2 lb (0.5 to 1 kg) a week for most adults. Your doctor can advise what suits you.
Why does my weight go up some days?
Daily changes are mostly water and food in your system. Look at the trend over weeks, not single readings.
Is BMI accurate?
BMI is a rough screening tool. It can misjudge very muscular people and does not show where weight is carried.
Can I track my weigh-ins here?
Not here. Storm Weight saves every weigh-in privately and draws your trend line and goal forecast.
