How long does it take to read the Bible?

The Bible has 66 books and 1,189 chapters. Reading it in a year takes a little over three chapters a day, or about fifteen to twenty minutes for most readers.

Choosing a pace

If a year feels like too much, start with the New Testament in 90 days or the Gospels in 30 days. Finishing a shorter plan builds the habit for a longer one.

How this plan is built

The generator lists every chapter in order and spreads them evenly across the days you choose, so some days have one chapter more than others. Real reading time depends on chapter length, which varies a lot between books.

Read and reflect

Try picking one verse each day and writing a short note: the verse, what it says, how it applies to you and a short prayer. This is the SOAP method.

Frequently asked questions

How many chapters a day to read the Bible in a year?

About 3.3 chapters a day. Many plans round this to three or four chapters, or add a Psalm.

Is it better to read in order?

Reading in order is simple. Some people prefer plans that mix the Old and New Testaments each day. Both work.

What if I miss a day?

Do not try to read a whole week at once. Add a little to the next few days, or reset your plan from today.

Can I track my progress here?

Not here. Storm Bible Study saves your plan, ticks off readings and catches you up automatically.
