How recipe cost is calculated
For each ingredient, divide the package price by the package size to get the price per unit, then multiply by how much the recipe uses. Add all the ingredients for the recipe total and divide by the number of servings.
Mixing units
You can buy in pounds and cook in ounces, or buy in kilograms and cook in grams. The calculator converts within weight and within volume. It cannot convert between weight and volume, because that depends on the ingredient.
Scaling a recipe
Change the servings you want to cost for and the calculator scales the total. This is handy for batch cooking or feeding a crowd.
Small items add up
Oils, spices and sauces are easy to ignore. Including a small amount for them gives a more honest cost per serving.

Frequently asked questions
How do I cost an ingredient I only use part of?
Enter the full package price and size, then the amount the recipe uses. The calculator works out the share of the cost.
Can I convert cups to grams?
Not directly, because a cup of flour weighs much less than a cup of sugar. Use the same type of unit for package and recipe.
Why cost my recipes at all?
Knowing cost per serving shows which meals are best value and makes planning to a weekly budget much easier.
Can I save my recipes?
