How homeschool GPA is calculated
Each letter grade has a point value on a 4.0 scale: A is 4.0, B is 3.0, C is 2.0, D is 1.0 and F is 0. Plus and minus grades add or subtract about 0.3.
Weighting by credits
Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up and divide by the total credits. A full-year course is usually one credit and a semester course half a credit.
Weighted GPA
A weighted GPA gives harder courses extra points. A common approach adds 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or dual enrollment. If you use weighting, show both GPAs and explain your scale on the transcript.
Cumulative GPA
For a transcript, calculate GPA across all high school years together, not just one year.

Frequently asked questions
Should a homeschool transcript show weighted GPA?
If you offer honors or AP level courses, many families show both weighted and unweighted GPA, with a short note explaining the scale.
Is an A+ worth more than 4.0?
On most 4.0 scales an A+ counts as 4.0. This calculator follows that convention.
How many credits is a course?
Usually one credit for a full-year course and half a credit for a semester course. Apply your method consistently.
Can I save my courses?
Not here. Storm Homeschool saves every course, grade and year and prints the transcript for you.
